So yesterday, I outlined a slew of one liners that were focused on what I termed - connections and concerns - all of which were preventing me from moving forward with truly kicking this online project off.
Let’s call it what it is. Those were fears. Likely still are in some cases.
However, I’ve reached a point of authenticity, vibrance, and engagement that I cannot, wait. Will not hold back on any longer regardless of the context.
I recently learned that a couple things that unlocked this idea of having an online presence that is truly authentic and integrated.
My first concern. Wait, let’s try that again. My first FEAR was that any personal branding was going to be viewed as selfish or egotistical. I really, really dislike being around people that have a lot of words and nothing to say. I recently realized that this was firstly a garbage fear that did not apply to me. Secondly, in some coursework I’m undergoing – learned that this project is not about me.
It is about what I represent.
It is about standing for something.
It is about sharing my voice.
It is about daring to show up and to stand tall.
This will allow people to truly make a choice.
This will allow people to see a new possibility – possibly for themselves. Certainly will force many to take a position relative to mine.
I am ready for the ensuing conversations, deeper connections with those that want it, and to develop some distance from those that do not.
I for one am going on record.
My second FEAR was really around losing touch with who I am or where I came from.
It sure seems silly when it is typed out here on my laptop, and soon to be on the internet. Well, here’s what I now understand, again based upon some course work I have been doing.
It is possible to be successful.
It is possible to be real.
It is possible to be both successful and real.
My brand, my stand – both pass through me, yet it is not about me.
This is why I’m doing the 84 days of posts – there is plenty I can share to help others.
83 to go.
Will be along with you for this adventure, and am learning already.
Thank you Dave – you have taught me so much along the way as well. I’m certain there’s a post in here about our Expound and Magellan journeys – maybe even a post about being a father and having some guidance from you in that regard too. I appreciate you!!!
Fears are a primal source of information for making decisions. They should always be consulted for their insights into what is we want, what is driving it and what most be done to realize it. You have an attitude that presages a transformative journey for you. And it will be excellent.
David – thank you for jumping in as always. Learning along the way from you too!
