One Thing A Day – 65 Examples

            Yesterday I wrote about the need to get started with just one thing a day.  I hammered home the point that my first daily action was unusually focused on getting into the gym.

For those of you that are still unsure where to start – this is going to be a great post for you – I have a slew of possibilities to pick from.

So without any more talking and introduction – here’s a set of options and questions for your consideration in no order whatsoever!

I have grouped each set of 5 completely arbitrary things into 13 Dimensions of Life to make this even more digestible.

 

  • Energy & Spiritual
    • Begin praying
    • Get your bloodwork done, inclusive of hormone and minerals
    • Download a meditation app
    • Commit to taking a 5 minute walk every hour
    • Fast from solid foods for 16 hours
    • Get a Bible App
  • Values, Purpose, and Legacy
    • Figure out one non negotiable value that you operate from
    • Write a letter to yourself from the 10 years older version of yourself giving yourself one piece of advice
    • Run your own numbers
    • Talk with your children about your values
    • Schedule a retreat/alone time  for yourself to give this more thought
  • Emotional Health and Well Being
    • Take a 20 minute walk in the morning
    • Write down 3 things you are grateful for and truly feel the gratefulness in your bones
    • Call someone you’ve been meaning to call
    • Schedule some time to volunteer at a local charity
    • Pay for the guy’s coffee in line behind you for no reason
  • Health & Physical Fitness
    • Stop eating refined sugar
    • Only eat at mealtimes
    • Drink a 32 oz glass of room temperature water first thing in the morning
    • Change the air filters in your home
    • Stretch your entire body for 15 minutes – find how to do so via YouTube
  • Intellect, Education, and Skills
    • Start reading a book on an interesting subject
    • Download the Blinkist app and sign up for the service
    • Find a podcast you are interested in
    • Sign up for an online course at Udemy
    • Find a new recipe and make the meal tonight
  • Character, Discipline, Integrity
    • Stop hitting the snooze button, just get out of bed
    • Listen to Jocko’s podcast
    • Get rid of all of the snack foods in your home
    • Do 20 squats, 20 pushups, and 20 sit ups today all right in a row.  Stop when you get tired, restart until you get through one cycle.
    • Wake up at 5am tomorrow
  • Productivity & Organization
    • Cancel your TV service
    • Commit 30 minutes to planning the next seven days of to do’s
    • Get 8 hours of sleep and 9 hours in bed tonight
    • Quit watching any TV or media for the day
    • Remove all social media apps from your phone
  • Entrepreneurship, Business Plans and Delivery
    • Check out Chris Guillebeau’s materials – Side Hustle School is legit
    • Check out Sean Wes’ materials
    • Start writing down your ideas
    • Reach out to a friend that you know has their own business and offer to help them with 10 free hours of your time over the next two months
    • Go to Fiverr.com and find a gig or two that you could do better than what is being offered
  • Family, Inner Circle, Social
    • Tell someone close to you that you love them with no expectations of a response
    • Reach out to a mentor to reconnect
    • Quit checking your phone when your family is in the home
    • Do something fun with your kids for no reason
    • Go to mpix.com and build a canvas of your family and mail it out to a couple of close family members for no reason
  • Financial
    • Check out mvelopes.com
    • Check out David Ramsey’s materials
    • Grab all of the extra cash and change around your home and put it into savings
    • Open up a savings deposit box
    • Setup automatic bill payments with your current bank
  • Play, Adventure, and Creativity
    • Buy concert tickets for an upcoming show
    • Research an ‘experience’ in your local area via AirBnB’s app
    • Sign up for dance, singing, or writing lessons at a local community college
    • Go on GroupOn and buy a half price lesson on something such as sailing or rowing that you have never done before
    • Find a new restaurant in your town and eat out there
  • Professional – Career and Work
    • Schedule ‘thinking time’ into your day
    • Scan LinkedIn for profiles you think are really well done as potential models for your own LinkedIn profile
    • Plan your schedule for tomorrow
    • Brainstorm 5 innovative ideas to bring to your boss for further brainstorming
    • Research executive coaches
  • Tangibles and Location
    • Make your bed
    • Fold your laundry
    • Clean your desk
    • Get a whiteboard for your home office (I just got three)
    • Get a hammock

 

Many of these are 1 off topics and many of these could be incorporated into a new daily habit.  The point here is to get started with one thing per day that moves you step forward.

I bet that there will be days where you will find you can do 5 of these things in addition to your usual routine, and other days where getting one thing done will be a real struggle.
