Day 2 of DoD – Welcome to the Grind

So last post, I mentioned that I had started this 30 Days of Discipline from Bold and Determined – effectively as a reboot to my habit forming approach and re-cementing some disciplines that I think have become soft.

Day 2 was in some ways much easier to get through, and in other ways it was harder. The mental and interaction-based habits all were much easier as I have clicked into the proper frame to achieve the habits espoused by Victor – knocked those all out of the park. Day 1 – i missed on a few of those…

I found myself able to get out of bed a full hour earlier, although not the desired start time in the program just yet, and I found that the day started off incredibly well. I was always a step ahead of whatever was on the calendar or whatever emergency erupted. Basic and simple stuff right? Getting up early to jump nasty on the day while everyone else is sleeping – novel concept, today it set the stage for some big wins at work and at home.

I also worked on another few habits, and my interactions with those around me were positively influenced as a result. Many of these things outlined as likely results by Victor – i already knew. The difference is that I had slacked on a couple of his habits and man – the simple stuff works. Respect was given by total strangers today, which fascinated me in a couple moments today. This is not a new thing for me to participate in, but today was definitely on ‘easy mode’ when out in public. WOW.

Finally, on the physical front – a bit sore in a few spots that I normally train anyway. The difference today was that it was more of an achy pain from a lack of endurance – similar to the pains when going through summer soccer / training camps in preparation for the season. Muscle memory was torn into over the past 24 hours.

Regardless of the pain and fatigue – I still put together personal bests on dead lifts and shoulder presses today and also beat the prior day’s timings – here they are:

Pushups – 4 minutes and 43 seconds

Squats – 3 minutes and 51 seconds

Situps – 6 minutes and 56 seconds

Writing this post tonight finishes off the 12th habit for today’s program – a total success. I’ll come back some additional updates on the next 28 days as the journey continues.

Here’s to The Grind!
